Damaged Roots

Dedicated to all the people uprooted due to the corona pandemic. Here’s hoping that we find the resilience to survive this pandemic and flourish like a mighty peepal tree

….

I transplanted a seedling today, which might one day be a peepal tree

It was a stray growing in a corner, hidden between long leaves of a lily

A mighty tree with resilient roots, stood besides it looking with pity

“Will you survive oh baby sapling? or will you go down in a jiffy?”

“So what if my roots are damaged today?

So what if the water is scarce to find?

I know I was born when the conditions were imperfect

with too much destruction from mankind

But I shall survive, grow tall and flourish,

amidst these scenes of doom and gloom.

I will wait for a brighter future

when the stars will shine and the flowers bloom.”

“So what if my roots are damaged today, since I was uprooted mercilessly

I will make any soil fertile while providing shelter and shade abundantly

I am a baby peepal sapling, a bit insignificant in size today

But I will make this world better, as I grow mightier day by day.”
